Five Games To Watch This Week 10/27 - 11/1 (2015-2016 Season Edition)

Lebron James defeated the Bulls in last season's Eastern Conference
semifinal round en route to an Eastern Conference championship.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Chicago Bulls
Tuesday October 27, 2015 8:00pm TNT
United Center, Chicago, IL

These two teams duked it out in last season's Eastern Conference Semifinals round, and as expected, it was quite a battle. However, the same result occurred for the Bulls as they ran out of gas towards the end of the series, losing the last three games and losing the series in six games. The Bulls have a new head coach now in former Iowa State head coach Fred Holberg. Hoiberg is an offensive minded head coach, so he'll be a change of pace from the defense and grind style of play that former head coach Tom Thibodeau implemented. This shall be a great way to start the season, and these two teams should be near the top of the Eastern Conference standings again this season.

It was two seasons ago Kawhi Leonard stripped Russell Westbrook
and preserved the Spurs Western Conference championship and eventual NBA championship.
San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Wednesday October 28, 2015 8:00 ESPN
Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK

While the Warriors plowed their way through the league for an NBA championship, the Spurs and the Thunder dealt with injury problems that prevented them from making a deep playoffs run. Of course, the Spurs' injuries weren't really severe enough to complete limit them, as they still won 55 games in a deep Western Conference. The Thunder, on the other hand, lost Russell Westbrook for an extended period, and then when he returned, lost Kevin Durant again for the rest of the season. Durant started the season injured with the foot injury that would eventually sideline him for the season. If healthy, I expect these two teams to be atop the Western Conference.

One can only imagine the look that will be on Mark Cuban's face
courtside if DeAndre Jordan dominates in this game.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers
Thursday October 29, 2015 10:30pm TNT
Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA

This game would be a lot bigger if it were played in Dallas. However, this is the first time DeAndre Jordan will face off against the Mavericks this season. Jordan infamously agreed to sign with the Mavericks during the ill fated moratorium period. However, Jordan began having second thoughts, which led the Clippers to prey upon that and convince him to return to the Clippers. This move left Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban irate. Cuban would love to get this win.

The Raptors acquired Demarre Carroll, and the Celtics acquired David Lee
in the offseason, making these two teams front runners in the Atlantic Division.
Toronto Raptors vs. Boston Celtics
Friday October 30, 2015 7:30pm
TD Garden, Boston, MA

The Raptors won the Atlantic Division crown for the second consecutive season last year, but the Celtics were the surprise of the division. Once the Celtics got rid of Rajon Rondo, and then acquired Isiah Thomas from the Suns, the Celtics began climbing the Eastern Conference standings, finishing seventh but getting swept in the first round by the eventual Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers. The Celtics and Raptors have made moves to upgrade their roster, as the Celtics acquired David Lee from the defending champion Warriors. The Raptors acquired Demarre Carroll, who was instrumental in helping the Hawks obtain the top seed in the Eastern Conference last season. I expect these two teams to battle it out for the Atlantic Division crown this season.

The Warriors celebrated their Western Conference championship after thoroughly
dominating the Rockets in last season's Western Conference Finals.
Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets
Friday October 30, 2015 9:30pm ESPN
Toyota Center, Houston, TX

The defending champion Warriors beat the Rockets in five games in the Western Conference Finals, and it appeared to be easy for the Warriors overall in beating the Rockets. They swept the Rockets during the regular season, and then won four out of five in the postseason. The Rockets upgraded their roster by acquiring Ty Lawson from the Nuggets. The Rockets now have a point guard who is a threat in the Western Conference. This is a conference that has Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry and Tony Parker in the conference, among others. This is a major upgrade for the Rockets.
